My first experiences with magic and awe occurred long before I knew what they were. Even at a very young age, I considered myself a scientist rather than a believer, and held a deep reverence for the natural world and all of its inner workings. I identify as a SASS (Skeptic, Agnostic, and Science-Seeking) witch, as someone who believes deeply in science and modern medicine while also believing that both mystical and magical practices are part of cultivating our lineage with the Earth. I believe in modern medicine, and vaccinations, and also believe that the universe is alive, benign, and deeply unknowable. I believe in the power of ritual as a way of being community with one another. An undercurrent that runs throughout my work is a deep sense of awe.
My practices as both a practitioner of astrology and Tarot and as someone who has an intimate relationship with wilderness began in 2017. I was taking a graduate school class about spiritual activism, where I researched the history of Tarot, its archetypes, and how it could be used as a deeper method of reflection. I had my birth chart read by a friend and gift practitioner. At the same time, I taught myself how to backpack. Since then, I've spent many hours studying divination and spellwork, and have logged over 3,000 miles on long trails throughout the United States.
I view Tarot and astrology as mirrors of the self, as useful archetypes, as conversations, and as potential roadmaps to where we could go— they not fated, dictated scripts of our lives. My reading style highlights how each of us are individuals with unique gifts and ways of being. As someone with an especially Saturn heavy chart who is well-versed in the ways of this planet, I also read with a serious, and growth-minded, approach. I am to empower my clients with information that will allow them to read their own charts and make their own decisions.
Witchcraft is the art of paying attention. Attention is, in an increasingly digital world, something that is increasingly valuable and is actively being stolen from us. My spellwork and rituals are based on cultivating a relationship with landscapes and species that we have lost in most Western cultures. I am not Indigenous, nor do I use Indigenous lifeways in my work, but I do admire the work and writings of Robin Wall Kimmerer and find her approach the closet way to express what I am seeking. While some may say my work is "traditional", I strive to incorporate practices that are grounded in actual history and practices, without making false assumptions about how other cultures lived or how we used to do things.
I have lived on O'odham lands since Samhain of 2022.
